Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
